Prof. dr. sc. Jasenko Marin

• Prof. dr. sc. Jasenko Marin is a full professor at the University of Zagreb (Croatia), Faculty of Law, Department of Maritime and Transport Law. He was born in Sisak (Croatia) in 1970. He graduated in law in 1995 at the Zagreb Faculty of Law where he also obtained his LL.M. in 2001 and Ph.D. in 2003. Professor Marin was employed by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Adriatic Institute) from 1996 until 2003. He has worked at the Zagreb Faculty of Law since 2003. He teaches the following graduate-level courses: Maritime and Transport Law, Insurance Law, and European Transport Law. At the post-graduate level, Professor Marin teaches courses on Maritime Law – Contracts on Transport, Maritime Law – Extracontractual Liability of Shipowners, Insurance Law, and Maritime and Transport Insurance. Furthermore, at the inter-disciplinary postgraduate master’s programme Crisis Management he teaches the course entitled Legal and Economic System and Crisis.

  Professor Marin is a member of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences. He is also a member of the Executive Board of the Croatian Maritime Law Association as well as of the Executive Board of the Croatian Association of Insurance Law (AIDA-Croatia). He is a collaborator of the European Institute for Traffic Law. Jasenko Marin is an arbitrator of the Permanent Arbitration Court at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce for disputes containing international elements and for national disputes. He is a mediator at the Mediation Centre of the Croatian Insurance Bureau. Professor Marin was a member of the Expert Committee that drafted the 2004 Croatian Maritime Code and its 2004, 2008, 2011 and 2013 amendments. He is also an ad hoc Expert Consultant of the Croatian Constitutional Court.  Professor Marin is a member of the editorial boards of two periodical academic publications: Comparative Maritime Law and Zagreb Law Review. He is also a member of the editorial board of EUROPA info Bulletin of the European Documentation Centre Zagreb, published by the Zagreb Faculty of Law. Professor Marin is the author of a textbook, an academic book, four book chapters and over 30 peer-reviewed academic and professional articles related to transport and transport insurance, published in Croatian or English. He was a per-reviewer of one university textbook as well as of more than 50 articles published in academic journals. Professor Marin has taken active part in 15 international and national academic conferences and seminars devoted to various topics of transport and insurance law.
